Method and limits

Magnification = (telescope focal length × optical factor) / eyepiece focal length.

Exit pupil = aperture / magnification.

True field ≈ apparent field / magnification. With a supplied field stop, true field ≈ (field stop / effective telescope focal length) × 180/π. Both are estimates: distortion and vignetting are not modeled.

A target fits geometrically when the estimated field in arcminutes is at least the supplied angular diameter × your margin. Among fitting eyepieces, we suggest the smallest field. This does not predict visibility, altitude, weather, seeing, or image quality.

Independent check

Celestron specifies a 2032 mm telescope, a 25 mm eyepiece and 81× power. Our unrounded result is 81.28×; rounded to a whole number it agrees.

Your data

Labels and angular sizes are yours. There is no built-in sky catalog. Your setup is saved in this browser only when you press Save setup; clear it through your browser storage settings. Deck inputs are processed to generate the response and are not retained on the server. We keep account details, usage counters, request metadata and contact messages as described in our privacy policy.

API

POST /api/deck with JSON. The optional Authorization: Bearer account key shares the same quota as the browser and MCP tool. An invalid payload does not consume a deck. GET /api/example returns a fixed example without consuming quota.
